Glossary Term
Gaijin
Gaijin (外人) is the Japanese term for “foreigner,” often carrying a mix of admiration and condescension. In Japan, gaijin are seen as both exotic and mysterious, a fascination that’s been amplified in anime and manga. While the term can sometimes imply a sense of otherness, it’s also a gateway to romance, adventure, and… spicy drama. Gaijin characters are frequently portrayed as the ultimate love interests, the mysterious foreigners who bring moe, chaos, and a little mischief to the plot.
