Bishojo (美少女) literally means “beautiful girl” in Japanese. In manga, anime, and gaming culture it refers to the archetype of young, attractive female characters—often teenage or early‑20s—whose visual appeal and personality drive the story. These characters appear across a wide range of media, from visual novels to collectible figurines, and they form a core theme for many fan communities.

Bishōjo Anime – Anime series that center on pretty, teenage girls as the main characters.
Examples: Sailor Moon, K‑On!
Bishōjo Idol – A fictional or real idol portrayed as a cute, young girl.
Examples: Idolmaster, Love Live!
Bishōjo Games – Video‑game sub‑genre (often visual novels or dating sims) featuring attractive young female characters. The player usually interacts with, or courts, these bishōjo characters.
Examples: Mystic Messenger, Clannad, Fate/stay night
