Otome

Otome (from the Japanese word for “maiden”) refers to a genre of visual novels and dating‑sim games that are designed primarily for a female audience. In an otome game, the player usually takes on the role of a female protagonist who interacts with a roster of male characters, each with distinct personalities, backstories, and romance routes (also known as potential husbandos). Players make choices that influence relationships and story outcomes, often leading to multiple endings based on the depth of connection formed with each character. The genre emphasizes emotional storytelling, character development, and often includes themes such as love, friendship, and personal growth.
