Book Summary:
Jude Duarte, a mortal girl, finds herself entangled in the treacherous politics of the faerie world after her parents are murdered, and she and her sisters are taken to live in the High Court of Faerie. While she seeks power and acceptance, she's drawn into a web of intrigue, deception, and unexpected romance with Cardan, the youngest and most wicked son of the High King.
The Review:
I adored the intricate world-building Holly Black has crafted. Faerie is depicted with both its captivating beauty and its cruel, treacherous nature. Jude, our protagonist, is resilient and fiercely determined, making her a compelling character to root for. The interactions between Jude and Cardan sizzle with tension, making their evolving relationship enthralling.
While the depth of political intrigue is thrilling, at times it felt a tad overwhelming, occasionally overshadowing the central romance.
So… Is it worth reading?
Sure! (Unless you hate political plots.) Holly Black's masterful storytelling and complex characters make it a standout in the fantasy romance genre.
Pros:
Deep, immersive world-building.
Strong, determined protagonist.
Engaging plot with unexpected twists.
Con:
Political intrigue occasionally dominates the narrative.
